Do you have a real interest in the wellbeing of the community and a passion for working with people? The Stratford District Council is currently seeking a full time Community Development Officer.

We're looking for an energetic, engaging and enthusiastic professional with community or economic development experience. The ideal candidate will be a team player, have experience with event or project management, and have a hands-on, common sense approach.

This is a permanent full time position which includes:

  • Building capacity within community groups.
  • Implementing projects and strategies.
  • Managing events.
  • Providing professional administration support to the Stratford Business Association.
  • Administration including minute taking, agendas and report writing.

This position requires someone with the ability to work flexible hours, independently and as part of a team, and with a good understanding of how community organisations work.

The preferred candidate will have demonstrated experience in administration, group facilitation, event or project management and the ability to build positive relationships. A knowledge of Local Government and Stratford and the Taranaki region is desirable but not essential.

Why choose Stratford District Council?

With a population of approximately 9,000, Stratford is one of New Zealand's smallest local authority areas. It has on its boundary two national parks: Egmont National Park (comprising of Mt Taranaki), and Whanganui National Park. This is a great work opportunity where you get the combined benefits of living in a world renowned region and having a work environment that enhances work/life balance. Plus Stratford has free parking and great local facilities!

If you enjoy being in a team environment and believe in making a real contribution to the organisation you work for, then we'd love to hear from you.

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work permit. An Individual Employment Agreement will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
